By Anonymous April 25, 2004--The Penobscot School in Rockland, Maine will offer its annual foreign language teaching workshop on July 26-29 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm daily. The four day workshop is based on Connectivity, an idea generating process approach to the teaching of foreign languages. Participants are promised 101 ways to teach language. Those attending will have ample opportunity to share ideas with fellow professionals and to prepare materials on site with which to start the school year. Topics will include: Learning a language like Leonardo da Vinci attaining traditional goals through no-traditional means; improving students’ ability to retain language; “coming to your senses” in the classroom; and re-focusing evaluation. “Connectivity” is cosponsored by FLAME (Foreign Language Association of Maine).
The instructor, Maureen Regan Baker, Ph.D. is a Professor emerita from the New York State University system. During her tenure at SUNY Potsdam, she taught students ages 5-65 and prepared language teachers for 30 years. Nationally known as a speaker and workshop presenter, she has received grants from the US Department of Education and the National Endowment for the Humanities to conduct month-long institutes for foreign language teachers.
Tuition for FLAME members is $195; for all others $225. The fee includes refreshments, all materials, and 2.0 C.E.U. credits. Space is limited; please register by June 30, 2004.
